San Diego Memorial Day Month Events 2026 From Armed Forces Week Through Memorial Day
San Diego is home to one of the largest concentrations of active duty service members and veterans in the country, and the coming weeks allow many opportunities to recognize, celebrate, and show our appreciation. Whether you're a veteran, active duty, a military family member, or simply a San Diegan who wants to show up for the community, here's a look at some events.

Armed Forces Week runs May 10–16, 2026, and specifically honors the men and women currently serving in uniform. The public events hosted by the cities and counties are definitely more heavily weighted toward Memorial Day at the end of the month, so if you are active-duty, keep an eye on the California USO website for upcoming events.
May 2026: Memorial Day Tributes and More
The lead-up to Memorial Day begins with Legacy Week (May 22–25), a multi-event series at the Port of San Diego honoring military valor and service. It sets the tone for a weekend of remembrance and community.
On May 23, there's something for nearly everyone. The Mt. Soledad Hill Climb (7:30 AM) is a 1.8-mile uphill ruck to the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial—a physical tribute that resonates with veterans who prefer to honor the fallen through action. Families can head to the Military Appreciation Event at Las Americas Premium Outlets (12–2 PM) for a free afternoon of music, entertainment, and community. That same afternoon, volunteers gather at Miramar National Cemetery for Operation Flags for Vets (12 PM) to place flags at the graves of fallen service members. In the evening, the Songwriting Graduation Showcase (6 PM) at San Diego Oasis features original music written by military-connected artists—a reminder of how creativity supports healing.
Memorial Day itself, May 25, offers two powerful options. The Memorial Day Murph (8:30 AM) at CrossFit Sun is a community workout honoring Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy—a tradition that has spread across gyms nationwide and speaks directly to the fitness culture many veterans carry into civilian life. For a more solemn observance, the Fort Rosecrans Memorial Day service (10 AM) at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery is a traditional ceremony that has long served as the region's most dignified tribute to the fallen.
June 2026: Honoring Sacrifice and Celebrating Service
The GORUCK D-Day Events on June 5 (6 PM) bring ruckers together at Fiesta Island to honor the 82nd Airborne Division on the anniversary of D-Day—another physical tribute that draws heavily from the veteran community. And for something lighter, the Armed Forces of Funny comedy show on June 26 at The Collective (7 PM) and a separate performance at Mic Drop Comedy (7:30 PM) feature veteran comics—because laughter has always been part of how service members cope, connect, and heal.
